You-choose CSA – Week 4!

So much is going on right now! We’re behind on summer planting, but getting caught up, and should have all of the tomatoes in the ground by Wednesday or Thursday. Most importantly, the strawberries are continuing to produce like crazy, and they look like they will continue to for another week or two (fingers crossed, this cold weather is definitely helping!). You’ll notice a few items are new to the list this week, including broccoli, cauliflower, and Napa cabbage! There will be a ton of broccoli and cauliflower in a few weeks, but for now they are limited and you’ll need to select a back up. The purple kohlrabi is also doing awesome, and there’s a lot of it right now! For those of you who have never had purple kohlrabi, it’s not very celebrated among other types of produce, but my personal opinion is it’s highly underrated for a couple of reasons: 1) it’s got amazing greens that are similar to kale in addition to the tasty stems, and 2) it is so funky and awesome looking. A few items are gone from the list too, including bok choy (a victim of a serious beetle attack) and turnips (the first round has all been harvested, but hopefully there is a second succession coming. Also, the longer days and warmer weather are taking their toll on the spinach. It’s still on the list this week, but not holding up well and will probably be done after this week. We’ll be planting the rest of the summer crops in the next week or two, and it’ll be June before you know it!
