You-choose CSA – Week 13

Hey all,

This is a great week for tomatoes. There will be lots of large tomatoes, heirlooms and slicers. There should be plenty of cherry tomatoes as well. Let me know if you want multiple orders of tomatoes in the notes. This might be the last week of watermelon. The peppers and egggplant are just starting to come on, and so is the okra. There should be sweet peppers here this week or next week, and pretty soon there should be a ton of eggplant. If you’d like okra, choose a back up just in case it’s not ready.

You-choose CSA – Week 12!

Hey all,

The melons are finally ready. It’s been so wet that the cantaloupe have been bursting and rotting in the field, but the watermelon are great, and the cantaloupe that I’ve salvaged have tasted incredible. If you do want cantaloupe, pick a back up as they are in short supply. The eggplant are really starting to come in as well, and soon there will be three different varieties available. There are also spicy padron peppers, and green peppers new on the list this week.

You-choose – week 11!

Happy 4th of July Everyone!!!

We got some much needed rain this past week, and then it rained some more, and some more, and it’s still raining… We brought the first heirloom and slicer tomatoes to market this past weekend, but this cooler, very wet weather is not good for the tomato plants, or for the ripening tomatoes. Cherry and Roma tomatoes are on the list this week, but even they are questionable if it doesn’t warm up and dry out, and we’ll need some sunny weather before the larger tomatoes are ready again. So hopefully the sun will be back out next week, and we’ll get a lot of tomatoes for next Tuesday. For tomorrow, please note what is in limited supply and pick back-ups where needed!

You-choose CSA – Week 10 (1st Summer CSA)!

Hey all,

It really feels like summer looking at the produce list. No more broccoli, lettuces, or kale. And tons of beans, cucumbers, squash, and basil. The peppers and eggplant are coming along, though may not be producing a ton for a couple of more weeks, and there are so many green tomatoes on the vines, we’re just waiting for them to ripen. The sungold cherry tomatoes and romas are ripening a little, so they’re on the list this week, but please pick a back up just in case. The melons are also coming along, and they look like they’ll be ready in a couple of weeks as well. Also, there are tons of storage crops: cabbage, onions, potatoes, carrots!

You-choose CSA – Week 9! (Last spring CSA delivery)

Hey All,

This is the final week of the spring CSA! A lot of the greens are gone, and if you’d like mixed lettuces or broccoli, please indicate back-up choices in the comments in case there’s not enough. This will most likely be the very last week for those two crops, and the peas are all done as well. The summer crops are growing well, and the watermelon vines have taken over the entire surrounding where they’re planted. The first sungold tomatoes have ripened, and the first baby Japanese eggplant are here as well. There should be a ton soon, and since they’re just starting to ripen, you’ll need to pick a back up for them as well, just in case!

You-choose CSA – Week 8!

New veggies this week! Cucumbers are just coming in. There should be several choices next week, and this week it’s just an assortment of slicers and maybe pickling and lemon cukes. If you want cucumbers then please choose a back-up just in case they’re not ready yet. SQUASH. There’s and insane amount of squash and zucchini right now, with four varieties to choose from. If you choose squash or zucchini this week, you’ll get a ton cuz there’s more than we know what to do with. There are also purple and orange carrots, three types of basil, green beans, fennel, and broccoli on the list. The broccoli is from a late planting that might be done after this week due to the intense heat…

Notice the greens are almost gone. The greens that are still on the list are all still good, but maybe not the best color/tip-top shape you’re used to. This is also probably the last or second to last week of lettuce til the fall.

You-choose CSA – Week 7!

Hello! The greens continue to dwindle as the hot days get hotter. There is a late planting of head lettuces right now though that are still in great shape. This might be the last week for good heads of bibb and romaine lettuce. New on the list this week are: carrots, squash, and zucchini. We’ve had a tough time keeping the carrots weed free this spring, and so they’re later than usual. Please pick a back up just in case they’re too small.

Broccoli and cauliflower are off the list this week, but there’s a second planting of broccoli that should be ready soon. Doing a second planting is always risky, and if we continue to have hot sunny days it might not make it, but hopefully we’ll have it back next week!

You-choose CSA – Week 6!

Hello hello!

New items this week: Red & savoy cabbage, new potatoes, sugar snap peas, daikon radish, baby summer squash, and escarole! Everything else is pretty much the same, but slowly the greens are going to be dropping off the list over the next month, with fewer varieties each week. We’re about to have a ton of sugar snap peas. People always rave over them, and though it’s blasphemy for me to say so, I like sugar snaps, but don’t love them. To me there not quite as sweet as everyone always says, and their mild flavor is good, but not as compelling to me as a fresh green bean (which are on their way!). So definitely go for the peas, I just like to hedge people’s expectations a little bit…

The carrots are behind because they were growing in a weed jungle. That’s almost been taken care of, so hopefully they’ll join the list in the next week or two, and pretty soon the basil should be ready as well!

You-choose CSA – Week 5!

The cooler weather has been great, and means that we’ll continue to have greens for the next few weeks, and maybe longer. But it’s also been so wet, and the cauliflower and a few of the other crops are not so happy with the crazy moisture. It looks like the weather will be warmer and sunnier for the rest of the week though, and a lot of the plants that are close to harvestable should be ready soon. Next week we should have sugar snap peas, new potatoes, and maybe a few others as well. This week the list is pretty much the same as last week, except the radishes are done, and the broccoli is plentiful this week!

You-choose CSA – Week 4!

The garden is overflowing with greens, and the main round of summer planting is almost done. We still have peppers, eggplant, okra, and sweet potatoes to get in the ground, and there will be second plantings of many crops, including corn (the first planting of sweet corn is growing great, and so far is the best crop we’ve ever grown, fingers crossed!), melons, squash, basil, and some others.

New on the list this week are baby salad turnips, cauliflower, and more types of lettuces and beets. Broccoli is tentatively on the list, but please pick a back-up as it’s on the cusp and may not be large enough. Regardless, there will be broccoli in abundance next week!
